James “Mack” Smith, Jr. of Frederick County, Virginia, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mack was born in 1954, in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late Barbara Jean and James M. Smith. He was a graduate of Sherman High School, Class of 1971, Boone County, West Virginia, and attended West Virginia Tech. Mack was formerly a coal miner with Armco Steel in Twilight, West Virginia and retired from there. Later on, he worked and retired as a Security Guard with USIS. He was a member of the Laurel Hill Christian Church in Lebanon Church, Virginia, where he was an active and faithful member.
Mack was an endowment member of the NRA, member of the UMWA, and a gun enthusiast. He was a military and civil war history buff collecting military memorabilia and firearms. Mack was a fan of Bluegrass music, science fiction movies, and enjoyed reading.
He married Katherine Rogahn on September 21, 1991, in Charleston, West Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is his brother, John S. “Steve” Smith (Cathy Morris), of Nellis, West Virginia; brother in law, Kurt Rogahn (Lynn) of Cedar Rapids, IA; several aunts and many cousins and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Laurel Hill Christian Church, 378 Laurel Hill Way, Strasburg, Virginia, with Pastor Alan Gray officiating. Everyone is invited to stay for a time of food and fellowship immediately after the celebration. Interment will be at a later date in West Virginia.
