James “Jimmy” Lee McFarland, Sr., 76, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. McFarland was born in 1939, the son of the late Leo and Beulah McFarland in Winchester, Virginia. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean War. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for H&W Construction Company for 21 years, as well as an independent truck driver for multiple companies. He lived his life for his family and was always working and enjoyed his jobs. After his third “retirement”, his family knew that he just couldn’t bring himself to throw in the towel.
Jimmy married Helen Boyce on May 8, 1963 in Winchester, Virginia. For 53 years, Jimmy’s first and foremost priority was the care and devotion to his wife.
Surviving with his wife are his four daughters, Angie Smith (David), of Stephens City, Virginia, Sherry Whitlock (Roger), of Winchester, Virginia, Lori Hyre (John), of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Jaime Pingley (Jy), of Winchester, Virginia; his son, James “Jimbo” McFarland, Jr. (Becky), of Gerrardstown, West Virginia; eight grandchildren, Michael Edwards, II, Kelly Ransom, James Lee McFarland, III, Katie Smith, Alex Hyre, Adam Hyre, Jaleia Nelson, and Amari Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Maddisen Lahr, Paxton Lahr, and Jaxson Ransom; one sister, Dottie Myers (John), of Martinsburg, West Virginia; and his two brothers, Joe McFarland (Debbie), of Winchester, Virginia and Eddie McFarland, of Winchester, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Puffinberger.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Omps South Chapel with Rev. C. Steve Melester officiating. Entombment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers for Jimmy will be Michael Edwards, II, Kelly Ransom, James Lee McFarland, III, Katie Smith, Alex Hyre and Adam Hyre.
