Col. James J. O’Quinn, USA Retired
Colonel James Jefferson O’Quinn, IV, 80, of Front Royal, Virginia died Sunday, April 17 in Charlottesville, Virginia at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Colonel O’Quinn was born in 1930 in Colfax, Louisiana the son of the late James and Inez O’Quinn. Colonel O’Quinn received his Bachelor’s degree of Education from Louisiana State University in 1953 and received his MBA from Babson College. Jim joined the army and rose to the rank of Colonel. His service spanned from the end of the Korean War through the Vietnam Era and beyond. Colonel O’Quinn proudly served his country for 28 years. He retired in 1981 and began work as a contractor for the United States Department of Defense.
Colonel O’Quinn married Patricia “Pat” Ford on June 19, 1954 in Franklin, Louisiana.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mary Kathleen Emery of Olney, Maryland; Mary Eileen O’Quinn of Centreville, Virginia; Mary Maureen Marshall of Mesa, Arizona; three sons, James Jefferson O’Quinn, Jr. of Thousand Oaks, California; Shawn William O’Quinn of Burke, Virginia; Kerry Brian O’Quinn of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters, Margaret Sheldon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Frances Robichaux of Metairie, Louisiana; three brothers, Frank O’Quinn of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Edwin O’Quinn of Magnolia, Texas; David O’Quinn of Austin, Texas; 14 Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 22 at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel in Winchester, Virginia from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 23 at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, Winchester, Virginia. Interment with Military Honors will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, adjacent to the Funeral Home.
