James “Jimmy” I. Godlove, 82, of Frederick County, Virginia died Sunday, October 2, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Godlove was born in 1933 in Wardensville, West Virginia, the son of the late Ernest E. and Bertha M. Godlove. He graduated from Wardensville High School, Class of 1952 and was a veteran with the United States Army where he was an expert marksman. Mr. Godlove retired from Henkel-Harris Furniture Company as plant manager after 36 years of service. He was an excellent furniture finisher and designed two furniture finishes that were patented by Henkel-Harris; he continued to finish furniture during his retirement. Mr. Godlove was a member of Fisher Body Craftsman Guild and participated in the General Motors Fisher Body Design Competition from 1947-1951 and won every year. He enjoyed everything outdoors and never came up against a problem that he could not fix. Mr. Godlove was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Wardensville, West Virginia.
Mr. Godlove’s wife, Jeanette Snider “Hott” Godlove, whom he married on March 14, 1955 in Cumberland, Maryland preceded him in death in November 2007.
Surviving is daughter, Tanya Favazza and husband, Stephen of Timonium, Maryland; son, Robert L. Godlove and wife, Barbara of Wheatfield, Virginia; sister, Sylvia Orndoff of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, David Favazza, Eryc Godlove, Brandon Jenkins, Austin Jenkins, Joanne Favazza, Steve Favazza, Jr., Tony Favazza, and Nick Favazza; great granddaughter, Melissa Favazza; godchildren, Scotty Jones, Carlyn Jones, Beth Gloyd, and Corey Gloyd; numerous nieces and nephews; and his constant and devoted companion, Buffy.
Mr. Godlove was preceded in death by sister, Peggy Jones and brother, Elmer L. Godlove.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
Services and interment will be private.
