James F. “Grease” Golightly, Jr.
James Franklin “Grease” Golightly, Jr., 76, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Golightly was born in 1934, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late James Franklin, Sr. and Violet Daisy Golightly. He was a Master Plumber for over 60 years retiring in 1996 from W.E. Foley after 16 years of service. Mr. Golightly was a member of Burnt Factory United Methodist Church, a member of Conrad Hoover American Legion, Post #21 and Judges Athletic Association. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball for many years and was inducted into the Winchester Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 2003. Mr. Golightly was a Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict achieving the rank of Corporal.
He married Linda Louise Heckert on July 13, 1957, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are five daughters, Melanie Melester and her husband, Steve, of Winchester, Donna “Peanut” Golightly of Stephens City, Dorothy “Dottie” Carter and her husband, Spanky, of Winchester, Teresa “Squirrel” Golightly of Winchester, and Susan Williams and her husband, Billy, of Strasburg; five grandchildren, Ben Melester, Sam Melester and his wife, Kelly, Josh Carter and his wife, Kristen, Emily Melnikoff and Evan Williams; one great granddaughter, Abby Melester; three sisters, Peggy Larrick, Joetta LaScola, and Janice Buterakos all of Winchester; three brothers, Robert Golightly of Slanesville, West Virginia, Donald “Duck” Golightly and Gary “Ike” Golightly of Winchester; and numerous nieces and nephews..
One son, Christopher Ray Golightly and one sister, Ann Short, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor Steve Melester and Pastor Josh Carter officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, with military honors by VFW Post 2123.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Orndorff, Larry Johnson, Larry Potts, Wendell Dick, Frenchie Shoemaker and Robbie Golightly.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, from 2:00–4:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
