James Daffin Patton, 91 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Jim was born in 1932 in Frederick County, VA, the son of the late Luther and Kathryn Patton. A graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1950. Jim retired from Safeway as a meat cutter. He enjoyed fishing, going out to breakfast with his buddies, frequent trips to Canada, mowing with his Wheel Horse tractor and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a caring son, husband, father, and grandfather. Over the years he cared for his mother as she aged, took on different roles in various family businesses, and led the way on many home projects and remodeling efforts. Anytime a family member was in need he was there to lend a hand. There were Sunday afternoons spent watching football, family meals at Cracker Barrel, and “Big Da-Da” or “Granddaddy” always finding the time for the grandkid’s soccer games, art shows, swim meets, and concerts.
He is survived by his wife, Gay Ann, whom he married on June 15, 1958, daughters, Kimberly Darr (Dennis), Deborah Patton; son, James Patton (Christie); 7 grandchildren, Nicholas Patton, Christopher Patton, Lakyra Vest, Faith Patton, Jezekiah Patton, Tyler Darr and Connor Darr.
Jim is preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Buck, and Marshall Patton.
A memorial service will be held for Jim on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 10am at Burnt Presbyterian Church, followed with a private graveside service. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Officiating will be Reverend C. Steve Melester.
