Jacqueline “Jackie” A. Malina, age 71, of Stephens City, Virginia passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 in Winchester Medical Center.
Jackie was born in 1947 in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of the late John “Jack” Cush and Veronica H. Cortese. Jackie was a graduate of Saint Albert’s Catholic School in New York. Jackie retired from Lazard Asset Management in New York, New York where she worked as an Executive Assistant.
Jackie lived a very active life that included camping in upstate New York, playing bingo, card games, gambling at various casinos, and cheering on her favorite sports teams: Yankees, Giants, Rangers, Knicks, and NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon. She even coached her daughter’s soccer team. She was actively involved in her daughter’s extra-curricular activities when growing up. She was the life of the party at family gatherings; dancing, laughing and having a good time. Jackie never forgot a birthday or anniversary and was a pro at shopping online at Amazon on her I-phone.
After retirement, Jackie truly enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a kind and generous soul who enjoyed her flower garden, birdhouses, cats, traveling, home decorating and watching her favorite TV shows: The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Jackie married Michael E. Malina on July 15, 1967 in Brooklyn, New York.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 50 years are her daughter, Danielle Malina-Jones (husband Harold Jones) of Stephens City, Virginia; three grandchildren, Julian, Julianna, and Jacob; her sister, Florence Lewis of Ashburn, Virginia; and her brother, Kenneth Cush of Rock Tavern, NY.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Hebel.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 am on Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Michael Dobbins officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
