Jackson “Jack” Kasper Jenkins, Jr., 83, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at his home with his family by his side.
Mr. Jenkins was born in 1934, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Bessie Louise and Jackson Kasper Jenkins, Sr. He was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1952 and of Shepherd College earning a Bachelor’s of Business Degree. Mr. Jenkins was a veteran of the United States Army having served at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Meade, Maryland.
He married Mary Jane Clayton on April 20, 1957 in Albin, Virginia.
Mr. Jenkins went into the restaurant business with his parents and wife, operating Shawnee Restaurant, Jumpin’ J. (which had the first electronic ordering system in the area) and then Jolly Jack’s Drive-in Restaurant. Jack was very enthusiastic in his many businesses and enjoyed raising quality fresh vegetables. Jack had a strong love for his family, went walking for exercise, enjoyed woodworking, cutting firewood, and had a passion for the radio and following Bluegrass music. He and his wife owned and operated Raspberry Ridge Farms. They participated in organizing the Winchester Frederick County Farmers Market in 1975. Mr. Jenkins later became the Manager of Battery Mart in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Mr. Jenkins was a 60 year member of the Winchester Hiram Masonic Lodge 21 and a member of Fairview Lutheran Church in Gore, Virginia. He was an honorary member of the Hoppers Auto Club.
Surviving with his wife is his son, C. Mark Jenkins and wife, Betsy; daughter, Cherie J. Lauck and husband, Ron, all of Winchester; granddaughter, Rebekah Louise DeHaven (Morgan) of Silver Spring, Maryland; and grandson, Thomas Jackson Jenkins of Winchester.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Fairview Lutheran Church, 464 Fairview Road (State Route 733 – right off of Highway 50 West), Gore, Virginia, 22637.
A service will follow at 2:00 PM at Fairview Lutheran Church with Pastor David Twedt officiating.
