Iva Bowman Ritenour, 89, of Stephens City, VA, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026, at her home.
Ms. Ritenour was born in 1936 in Winchester, VA, daughter of the late John G. Bowman, Sr. and Vanna (Breeden) Bowman. She was a graduate of Warren County High School, Class of 1955, earned a Bachelor’s degree from Madison College and a Master’s degree from Berea College in Kentucky. Ms. Ritenour was a retired schoolteacher having taught for Rappahannock County and Warren County Public Schools. She was a member of Virginia Retired Teachers Association of Warren County and volunteered as a tax preparer for Warren County. Ms. Ritenour was an avid reader and loved covered bridges and cardinals. She also volunteered as an aide for many years at Signal Knob Elementary School. Ms. Ritenour was a member of Refuge Church.
Her husband, Amos Harrison Ritenour, whom she married on September 19, 1958 in Sperryville, VA, preceded her in death in 2011.
Surviving is a son, Brian Gregory Ritenour of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Tori Butler of Hanover, PA and Caitlin Berryman (Marquise) of Martinsburg, WV; great grandchildren, Martellis, Kingzley, Milani, and Kairo; sisters, Mary McFarlane (James), Ellen Bowman, and Deborah Creasey (Greg) all of Stephens City, VA; and brother, John Bowman, Jr. (Barb) of Lakewood Ranch, FL.
Along with her parents and husband Ms. Ritenour is preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Louise Warren; sister, Charlotte Hawkins; half-sister, Margaret Bowman; and half-brother, Lincoln Bowman.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
