Ilean Pearl Hershberger Miller, 88, died on February 25, 2016, at Brightview Baldwin Park in Staunton, VA, where she had lived since 2006.
Mrs. Miller was born on October 13, 1927 in Danville, IL. She was daughter of Lee and Pearl Keller Hershberger. She graduated from Hillsboro (IN) School in 1945. On December 28, 1947, she married Russell Don Miller.
In 1962, Russ and Ilean moved to Winchester, VA. She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Miller Machine and Tool Company for many years. Russ and Ilean made their home in the Winchester area. Russell died in 2005.
Ilean will always be remembered as a very generous, kind, and caring woman who enjoyed helping others. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Her hobbies included making beautiful, handmade quilts, drawing and painting, writing stories, and many kinds of crafts. She even wrote a book, “Just Me” about her childhood as she wanted her children and grandchildren to know more about the way things were when she was growing up. Her family has her many creative works to cherish. In her later years, Ilean and Russ travelled extensively around the United States.
She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Staunton, and a former member of Stephens City United Methodist Church in Stephens City, VA. She was also a member of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Tom Miller and his wife Lynn of Berryville, VA, daughter Bonnie and husband Ken of Staunton, VA, and 6 grandchildren: Timothy Miller and wife Jodie of Clayton, NC, Emily Duerring and husband Shea of Birmingham, AL, Sam Miller of Stephens City, VA, Daniel Miller and Lea Ferrandi of San Francisco, CA, Mark Stephens and wife Melissa of Waynesboro, VA, Matthew Stephens of Astoria, NY, and five great-granddaughters: Addison, Regan, Braelyn, Elizabeth and Evelyn Miller. She is also survived by two sisters, Ann Shoaf of Sheridan, IN and Dellamae Nine of Veedersburg, IN, and a brother, Bud Hershberger of Veedersburg, IN. Ilean was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Hershberger in 1979.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, 1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
