Hugh Patrick Smith

Affectionately known as Hughie to all his family and many friends, born in 1956 to the late R. Donald and Hilda Patricia Smith of Silver Spring, Maryland, died Peacefully at his home in Mountain Falls, VA on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

Preceded in death by his brother, R. Donald Smith, Jr., and niece Katherine Dawn Smith.

Hughie was one of 10 children and will be greatly missed by all his remaining siblings, as well as his friends who refer to him as “a true friend with a heart of gold.”

Hughie was a dedicated mechanic all his life and loyally worked for Gary Bohenkamp at G&G Salvage for over 20 years.

He is survived by his loving children, Kerry Snyder of Centreville, VA; Ami M. Smith of Mountain Falls, VA and Ryan Smith and wife B.J. of Mountain Falls. He was the very proud Pop-pop to his beloved granddaughter, Piper, whom he affectionately called “his Monkey”.

Also survived by his sister, Marlene Butler and husband, Ted of Front Royal, VA, sister, Eileen Recktenwald and husband, Roger of Lawrenceburg, KY, sister, Katie Lay and husband, Danny of Versailles, KY, brother, Keevin Smith of Lexington, KY, brother Shannon Smith of Lexington and brother, Sean Smith of Winston-Salem, NC and half-sister, Bambi Smith of Fairfax, VA.

Hughie lived for and loved his children and granddaughter dearly and will always be missed. He was also a very caring Uncle to 16 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

A hard working man with a heart of gold, Hughie will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
