Howard Franklin Hargrove

Date of Death: December 31, 1969

Howard Franklin Hargrove, of Winchester, Virginia loving husband and father, died suddenly of pulmonary embolism, Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the age of 47.

Mr. Hargrove was born in 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Zetta D. “Dolly” Hargrove, and the late Benjamin F. Hargrove. He was Vice President of Information Technology at Sonabank in Warrenton, VA, and attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his family, boating, and relaxing on the beach. He was also an aircraft mechanic with a license from the FAA since 1998. He attended Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, and graduated from Clarkston High School in Georgia. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science from Strayer University in 2011. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served for six years and achieving the rank of SPC.

He married Amy Renee Bogner on December 31, 2006, at Port Kinsale Marina, VA.

Surviving with his mother of Virginia Beach are his wife, a son, Ethan Hargrove, and a stepdaughter, Emma Darr, at home in Winchester; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Judy and Vernon Bogner of Winchester; a sister, Chris Bolton and her husband, Mike, of Virginia Beach; a half-sister, Deanna Duggins of Winston-Salem, NC and a half-brother, Chuck Hunter and his wife, Sandee, of Wilmington, NC; his dog, and good buddy, Skippy, and numerous aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and extended family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Hunter.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Father Stanley Krempa officiating. Interment will be private. Military honors will be afforded by VFW, Post 2123.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

From visiting him at "The Beach" when he was just a kid (age 4-6) to big kid sitting as he grew up (age7-9), crabbing, fishing, boating, eating a ton of burgers at Carrol's, and cruising "The Strip" were some of the favorite things we did together when Howard was young. We continued to fish, body board, and "Beach It' when the families would get together. As our lives changed and the distance from Va. Beach grew we stayed in touch by phone and emails. We got together when he and Amy and family would come back to visit "The Beach". Howard was always the Big Guy with the big smile and bigger laugh. One of his last trips was to get the family all together for his mom"s 83rd Birthday. He was so happy when he and Amy met and were married, and so proud to become a Dad when he adopted Ethan. He loved Amy,Ethan, and Emma very much. We will keep his blond hair, big smile, and bigger laugh in our memories, and his loving spirit in our hearts. We will all miss him. cousin Bill
