Hilda Tharp Wimpfen, 87, passed from this life into eternal life on Monday, May 9, 2016, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.
Hilda was born in 1929, in Wardensville, WV, the daughter of Bertha C. and Hunter G. Tharp. After graduating from Capital School of Nursing, in Washington D.C., she worked 25 years for Dr. Weiner, a general practitioner, in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Hilda and her late husband, Sheldon, retired to Luray, Virginia, where she was a member of Page United Methodist Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Browns Mill Club and numerous sweepstakes clubs.
Her husband, Sheldon P. Wimpfen, of Luray, VA, preceded her in death. Her former husband, Ross J. Pastor, also preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Bonnie L. Howard, of Pinehurst, NC, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Her son, Conway K. Vance; brother, Edsel H. Tharp and three sisters, Bonnie K. Gwinn, Frances Tharp Mann and Clara B. Funkhouser, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Hilda will be returned to her beloved West Virginia to be interred in Hebron Cemetery near Yellow Spring.
