Hilda “Penny” L. Schenck
Hilda “Penny” L. Schenck, 86, Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Clapp’s Nursing Center, Pleasant Garden, North Carolina.
Mrs. Schenck was born in 1923, in Chatham, Virginia, the daughter of the late Howard and Nannie Lester. She was a graduate of Chatham High School. Mrs. Schenck held a great interest in the historical sites of Winchester serving as a tour guide for both George Washington’s Office and Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters throughout the 1960’s. She was also employed as an Interior Decorator for Pennypacker Decorators as well as assistant to the Dean for the Conservatory of Music, at Shenandoah University. Mrs. Schenck was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross where she was awarded a certificate of outstanding service. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester.
Her husband, William F. Schenck preceded her in death in 1968.
Surviving are her children, Ann Clark and her husband, Jim, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Bob Schenck and his wife, Elizabeth, of Yardley, Pennsylvania and Bill Schenck of Xenia, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 130 Keating Drive, Winchester, Virginia, with Reverend Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
