Marcella (Pence) Compton, 90, of Stephens City, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Winchester Medical Center.
Marcella was born on July 28, 1922 in Frederick County, Virginia, the daughter of the late James Gilbert Pence and Dottie Rebecca Litten Pence. She was employed as an aide with Bon Air Nursing Home, and with Maryland Public Schools as Cafeteria Manager. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Marcella loved flowers, and was an avid gardener. She especially loved little children, and they loved her.
She married Walter Glen Compton on January 4, 1944 in Leesburg, Virginia. Mr. Compton preceded her in death on May 10, 1967.
Surviving are her children, Beverly A. McDonald (Danny) of Clearbrook, VA, Peggy J. Corrado of St. Leonard, MD, Alice L. Compton (Frankie Ritenour) of Middletown, VA, Nancy M. Lusby (John) of Martinsburg, WV and Mary V. Compton; six grandchildren, Tammy L. Thomas, Susan R. Khoury, Yvonne M. Shigley, Vincent Corrado Jr., James G. Compton, and Dawn R. Alerassool; four Great grandchildren and one Great-great grandchild, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Marcella was the last surviving member of the Pence family. She was preceded in death by her son, Edwin Francis Compton; two sisters, Mary F. Pangle and Helen Frye, and three brothers, Charles R. Pence, Reese T. Litten and James Wilmuth Pence.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening May 17th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, in Winchester, Va.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday May 18th at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend Paul Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be James Compton, John Lusby, Frankie Ritenour, Marvin Pence, Vincent Corrado, Jr. and Colby Sample. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny McDonald, Gary Thomas, Donnie Thomas and Mike Alerassool.
Memorial donations may be made by donating an hour of your time to the “elderly” in her name.
