Hilda “Tootie” Edwards Russell, 94, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Facility.
Mrs. Russell was born in 1924 in Cross Junction, Virginia, the daughter of the late Erle and Encie Edwards. She was a graduate of Stephens City High School, Class of 1942 and attended Winchester Business College. Mrs. Russell was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church for more than 60 years, where she sang in the choir, served on the church council, and was a member of the Jolly Crowd.
Her husband, Samuel Peachie Russell, whom she married on December 24, 1942 preceded her in death in 2000.
Surviving is a son, Samuel S. Russell of Winchester, Virginia; grandson, Samuel D. Russell of Montgomery, Texas; great-grandchildren, Quinn J. Russell and Brooke M. Russell of Humble, Texas; nephew, William Lee Butler of Brandon, Missouri; and nieces, Alice Carpenter Karrh of Nellysford, Virginia, Rose Ann Butler Terrell of Roanoke, Virginia, and Mary C. Butler Turner of Palmetto, Florida.
Along with her parents and her husband Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by a brother, William Roscoe Edwards; sisters, Elsie Edwards Carpenter and Eltha Edwards Butler; and niece, Sandy Carpenter Organ.
A visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 2077 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, Virginia with a funeral service at 11 am with The Reverend Dr. David N. Young officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be J. Hardie Karrh, Craig P. Organ, Jr., Scott A. Organ, and Steven L. Organ.
