Helen “Hankie” V. Corrigan
Helen V. Corrigan, 93, of Winchester, VA died Friday, November 21, 2014. Hankie passed peacefully surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and her loving family of caregivers at Spring Arbor Assisted Living.
Ms. Corrigan was born in 1921, in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Virginia B. Lillis. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1938. Hankie was the family matriarch and long-time co-owner of Corrigan Rug Cleaners, working side by side with her husband, Raymond “Tag” Corrigan. After Tag’s death she continued to provide the company’s special service of Oriental rug repair until her medical retirement in 2011. Her greatest love was her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hankie treasured her golf and bridge buddies, as well as her Spring Arbor family. Her quick wit, readiness as a prankster, faithful friend and pesky devoted mother will be greatly missed. She attended St. Paul on the Hill, Episcopal Church and was a member of the Winchester Country Club.
Her husband, Raymond “Tag” Corrigan, whom she married on August 29, 1942, in Winchester, VA, preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving is a daughter, Patricia C. Scheder, Winchester, VA; son, Dennis S. Corrigan, Winchester, VA; brother, Jeane Lillis and wife, Mary Iden, of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Tracy Link, Catherine Ruble, Diron S. Corrigan, Amanda Rudolph, Alex T. Corrigan; three great grandchildren; and nephew, Jack Lillis and wife, Betty of Winchester, VA.
She was preceded in death by brothers, David Lillis, John Lillis, Edwin Lillis, Charles Lillis.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s on the Hill Episcopal Church, with Reverend Susan McDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Hankie was a great advocate of abused women and children and a cancer survivor.
