Helen Louise Rinard Carpenter, 74, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday December 27, 2010, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in 1936, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Ralph M. and Helen Louise Rinard. She was a service representative with the Social Security Administration and previously employed by Scott & Stingfellow, Inc. in Winchester, Virginia. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church and a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1955.

She married Richard L. Carpenter on October 9, 1955, in Winchester, Virginia.

Surviving with husband is her daughter, Teresa Carpenter of Winchester; son, Mark R. Carpenter and his wife, Sue, of Stephens City, Virginia; three grandchildren, Cara Lawhorne and husband, Jamie; Philip Carpenter, Taylor Carpenter and two great grandchildren; Peyton and Austin Lawhorne. Her son, Gregory Scott Carpenter and brother, Bradford Rinard, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Clyde T. Nelson officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
