Dear Jackson Family, Our hearts are so heavy as we say goodbye to dear Helen. We were among the lucky ones who enjoyed knowing her. Helen was part of our lives for many years. One memory we all share is that all-knowing pointed look she gave when telling us to behave-we knew to pay attention! We will always remember the warmth of her spirit and her kindness, and how any day was a little better when we came home from school and Helen was there. Helen was sweet and wonderful. She cared for us so wonderfully, and for our own children in later years. We were always grateful for the admiration and affection she and our mother shared. We thank you for sharing her with us and giving us a chance to love her too. We miss you Helen. The Whitacre Kids, Peyton, Susan, Kay, Laura and Lee

Murphy Henry left a message on March 17, 2020:
I met Helen through Dalton Brill, who had the barber shop on the Loudoun Street Mall. We had bluegrass music every Wednesday night in the room under the barber shop for about 8 years in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Dalton also occasionally held special suppers--with fried rabbit or chicken--and music, on Saturday nights. Helen always cooked the rabbit and/or the chicken and a lot of the other food (green beans?) and she stayed and served the food. She was a wonderful cook and person, and she and Dalton were clearly old friends who liked each other very much. I'm glad I got a chance to meet her. I sorry she has passed, but I'm glad she made it to 90. Murphy Henry, banjo player

Robert Kopczenski left a message on March 16, 2020:
I knew Helen for about the last 2 years of her life as I visited her at the Envoy Nursing & Rehab Center. I never met a more sincere, gentle, compassionate and loving lady than Helen. She loved to pray and sing Hymns especially " Holy God, We Praise Thy Name". Last Christmas she offered me $10 so I could put that to use in my car as gas to use to visit other folks like her who live in other facilities in the area. She once told me that her & her late son would make meals for grieving families who lost loved ones so she could provide mercy & comfort them in their hour of need. The last time I saw Helen, Thursday morning on the day she passed, she asked me to tell her roommate at Envoy that Helen was praying for her roomate and not to worry about her! I pray that this beautiful soul of a lady is being comforted by The Almighty God and that she sees the face of Christ in Heaven! She is what I fondly refer to as an 'unsung saint'; a person the world may not know of, but God, who sees all and knows all, knows her life. I would think that God is pleased in what He saw in Helen's life. I am a little better of a man for having known this lady, May The Perpetual Light of God's Holy Spirit shine on her as she rests in Peace. AMEN.
