Hazel V. Brookshire, 83, of Manassas, Virginia passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Fox Trail Assisted Living in Stephens City, Virginia. Mrs. Brookshire was born in 1936 in Franklin, North Carolina, daughter of the late Sylvester and Laura Vinson. Hazel V. Brookshire, 83, of Manassas, Virginia passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Fox Trail Assisted Living in Stephens City, Virginia.
Mrs. Brookshire was born in 1936 in Franklin, North Carolina, daughter of the late Sylvester and Laura Vinson. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, where she was an avid basketball player. Mrs. Brookshire was a homemaker and an exceptional cook. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and spending time with her family. Above all else, she loved taking care of her grandchildren. Mrs. Brookshire was a member of Buckhall United Methodist Church in Manassas, Virginia.
Her husband, Hoyt N. Brookshire, preceded her in death in 2004.
Surviving are sons, William Brookshire of High View, West Virginia and Anthony Brookshire of Manassas, Virginia; grandchildren, Randy Brookshire of Apex, North Carolina and Ryan Brookshire (Ashley) of Manassas, Virginia; great grandchildren, Cecilia, Amalie, and Malcolm, all of Apex, North Carolina and Charlie of Manassas, Virginia; sisters, Irene Speed of Franklin, North Carolina and Joan Cabe (Edwin) of Franklin, North Carolina; and brothers, Ray Vinson (Linda) of Franklin, North Carolina, James “Bud” Vinson (Nancy) of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jerry Vinson (Dora Anne) of Otto, North Carolina.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Brookshire was preceded in death by sisters, Lucille Moffitt, Betty Sue Elvis, Dorothy Sosebee, and Roberta Welch; and brothers, Edwin and Max Vinson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Macon Funeral Home, 261 Iotla St, Franklin, North Carolina 28734. Interment will follow in Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery at 86 E. Hickory Knoll Road, Franklin, North Carolina, 28734.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hazel’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter, 8180 Greensboro Drive, #400, McLean, Virginia 22102.
