Harry Douglas “Doug” Collis, 92, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, in his home.
Mr. Collis was born in 1918, in Rest, Virginia, the son of the late William Arthur and Annie Susan Collis. He was a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force having served for 34 years, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He served during World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. He was a member of the Winchester VFW Post #2123, the American Legion Post 21, and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Mr. Collis was a Deacon and Member of Boyce Baptist Church.
He married Phyllis N. Collis on March 20, 1946, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife, are his sons, Harry Douglas Collis, Jr., of Pensacola Florida, Kenneth Arthur Collis of Gerrardstown, West Virginia; daughters, Patricia Diane Cox and husband, Delroy, of Monroe, Louisiana, Elizabeth Lynn Lewis and husband, Tom, of Inwood, West Virginia, Valerie Suzanne Foley of Winchester Virginia; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Chapman of Portland, Maine.
One sister and six brothers preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, at Boyce Baptist Church with Reverend Ben Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in Payne’s Chapel Church Cemetery,
Pallbearers will be Mr. Collis’ grandsons, Jeremy McNew, Daniel Cox, Benjamin Lewis, Gregory Lewis, Matthew Collis, Zachary Collis and Cody Barr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Avery Gibbs, Dr. James Salata, Dr. Neil Gaither, Dr. William Majors, Dr. Bruce L. Flax and the Deacons at Boyce Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00-1:00 PM at the church.
