H. Wayne Kagey, Sr.
Mr. H. Wayne Kagey, Sr., 71, of Clear Brook, VA, went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1938, the son of the late David S. and Elizabeth C. Kagey. He was a graduate of Fairfax High School in Fairfax, VA, where he was a student school bus driver for two years while a junior and senior. He drove school buses throughout his lifetime beginning in Fairfax and continuing in Frederick County, VA, where he also drove The Colonels activity bus. He drove school buses in Petaluma, CA, and Rockingham County, VA. He became a certified bus mechanic and retired from Rockingham County School system. Much of his life he worked more than one job at a time and was employed at Omps Garage in Winchester periodically since 1971, most recently as the state vehicle inspector.
Wayne served in the National Guard of Virginia and the U.S. Army Reserve. He was an all-star 4-H member in Fairfax County and a member of the Grange for some time. Most recently he was a member of Welltown United Methodist Church, where he was active in mission work. He was a devoted member of the Brad Omps racing team for many years.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Kagey, he is survived by his former wife and special friend Brenda Dadley; a son, H. Wayne Kagey, Jr., and his wife, Susan, of Winchester; two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Kagey Price and her husband, Darby, also of Winchester, and Emily Kagey Hutzell and her husband, John, of Randleman, NC; two step-daughters, Teresa Oates and her husband, Richie, of Clear Brook, and Linda Barnes and her husband, Jeff, of Augusta, WV. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is survived by a sister, Janice C. Cobb of Harrisonburg, VA, and a nephew, Phillip “PJ” Cobb, of Martinsburg, WV. Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Michele Kathleen, and a brother, Charles Kagey. With an open heart Wayne also welcomed as his own Denise Doyle Reuwer of Humble, TX, and provided a home for many others throughout his lifetime.
A memorial service will be conducted at Welltown United Methodist Church, 1444 Welltown Road, Clear Brook 22624, on Sunday, June 13, at 2 p.m., with the Reverend Marc Roberson officiating, followed by a celebration of his life.
