Gwendolyn M.L. Carter

Ms. Gwendolyn M.L. Carter, 76, of Frederick County, VA died Thursday, June 30, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Carter was born in 1940, the daughter of the late Mary Frances and Paul R. Simmons, Sr. She was a domestic worker and loved to take care of everyone’s children.
Her husband, Grover Russell Carter, Sr., whom she married on November 7, 1959 in Rockville, Maryland preceded her in death on April 15, 2005.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley L. Jewell, Connie F. Outen, Paula M. Perini, and Vangie A. Woodward; brothers, Paul Simmons, Jr. and Eddie Simmons; sisters, Gloria Johnson and Kay Witt; eighteen grandchildren; numerous loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ms. Carter was preceded in death by son, Grover “Rusty” R. Carter, Jr.; daughter, Esther L. Shroyer; one grandson; one granddaughter; great granddaughter; and eight siblings.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 2-3 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Mike Mayton officiating at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Memorial contributions in memory of Gwendolyn may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
