Gus Nusu, 69, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 in Winchester, Virginia.

Gus was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1951; the son of Tina Nusu and the late Nicholas Nusu. Gus moved with his parents to the United States at the age of 15. He lived in New York where he met and married his wife, Claudia Elkowich. Gus & Claudia married on July 13, 1974 in New York City. He is survived by his mother, his wife and his two daughters: Corina Nusu of Los Angeles, California and Tatiana Nusu of Winchester, Virginia, and Tatiana’s son & Gus’s grandson Aden Nusu.

Gus was a loving family man, a devoted son to his mother and treasured time spent with his family, especially with his grandson, Aden. They affectionately called each other Grampy Poo & Baby Poo. “They were 2 peas in a pod.”

Gus had a great sense of adventure and believed in living life to the fullest. He travelled extensively with his wife, Claudia, of 47 years and his family. He enjoyed experiencing different cultures & cuisines and taking in the many beautiful sights from every corner of the world.

Gus was also a savvy businessman, who moved with his family to Winchester, Virginia in 1992 to take on more challenging endeavors and succeeded.

Gus was loved by many. He always brought a smile, a sense of humor and an open heart to everyone he met. His love of life filled a room. He will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have him in their lives.

Gus’s final words summed him up perfectly: “Grampy Poo is the greatest!”

A visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-3pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 10 people will be able to be in a room at one time. We would ask for
your understanding for this and to keep your visit brief. Those who cannot visit in person are encouraged to leave a message for Gus’s family on his obituary page on the Omps Funeral Home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

I worked with Gus Nusu in the early 1980's at Walsen Design. Such a nice, hard-working man; always with a smile on his face. Blessed to have such good memories of him.

I am so deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Gus Nusu of Total Molding in Winchester. He was an amazingly kind man that helped me with my project and product. I would never have been completed this product without his expertise and willingness to help. I will always remember his laughter and his positive view in life. I have known Gus for over 20 years and have had the privilege of having a business relationship with him for that same time frame. He has always been the most up-beat and optimistic in his dealings and the humor he injected always made it fun to communicate with him. I will greatly miss this and must say he was a real class act. To the Nusu family I pray for you and will always remember Gus for his love of life and business.

Mr. Gus, where to even begin. I have learned so much from you in the passing years. From patience, trust, to dedication. I'll always remember your tan skin and how I told you I would eventually catch up, which I never did. Would be over 100 out and you would just be a hummin. The few times you snuck me out ice cream and told me not to tell because you had one too, I've kept that secret till now. I loved leaving some leaves for you, as you would tell me it was your only job and you needed Mrs. Claudia to think you were busy. So many laughs over the years, you will be truly missed. I feel blessed to have met such an intelligent, adventurous, and truly loving man. You will always be in our hearts.

Gus was always so kind and generous. My first week working with him, he wrote me a check from his personal account because "I was doing a good job." He always made me laugh. He was fun to work with too.. And he could tell stories. He had a story for everything. He gave good life advice too. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. My heart is heavy. Prayers to you all.

We are so sad we cannot be there today. We are Praying for the entire family, and sending Virtual Hugs for all. Claudia and The entire Family have Their Own Beautiful Angel Watching over them !

I only meet Gus a few times and he was one of the nicest people you could have meet. He will be missed.

I am still in shock to hear of Gus's passing. He always took good care of himself. He once bragged to me that it had been over a year and he hadn't even taken an aspirin. I so enjoyed working with him I would feed his fishies when he traveled. And, he would treat me to a cup of coffee once in awhile when Henning was out of town. It was the best. My prayers are with you Tat, I am deeply sorry for your loss.

For this amazing husband, father, son, uncle, friend, boss and especially Grampy Poo...Gus will be terribly missed. He was loved by all of us and his actions and outlasting care will be cherished in every memory we all have. So many great memories have been coming up the last couple of days...from playing in the pool, to swinging on his strong arms, to working the early mornings together at the plant and watching him create things. Most of all the great hugs, beautiful smile, and knowing he loved us. Prayers and 'cyber hugs' to Claudia, Corina and Tatiana from not just me, but Walter and Linda too. Much love.

My heart is breaking. Gus was one of a kind that you couldn't help but to love! One of the funniest moments might have been the story he told of teaching Corina how to drive, and it was in his BMW. Corina went in a ditch and he said she just kept pushing the gas pedal and some how she got out of the ditch. Then there's also the story of when Gus and Claudia came to my son's baby shower. They went to the neighbors house instead and Claudia fell going down their steps and had leaves in her head and in the gift bag also. Thankfully she wasn't hurt, Gus had a way of telling the story and kept a straight face the whole time, when we couldn't help but to laugh! We had great times at Blue Ridge Industries and he really cared and listened to us workers and did everything he could to make it a better work place! I love you Sexy Hunk! We have always adored Gus. There are no words to describe the sadness we feel at this awful time. He was truly one of a kind, a generous and brilliant man who brought love and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to come into his life. He will be embedded in our memories forever.
