Golda Pearson Putnam, aged 78, passed peacefully on Saturday August 8, 2026 at her home in Winchester, Virginia, while in hospice care. She was surrounded by her family and beloved Shorkie, Coco.

Golda was born March 9, 1948, the youngest daughter of the late John Luddrell and Virginia Thompson Pearson. She was raised in Clarke County Virginia and attended Clarke County High School. Throughout her life she devoted her time to numerous community organizations. She was a volunteer with the Winchester Rescue Squad, a Troop Leader for Girl Scouts of America, a Coordinator for Area 13 Special Olympics, and was active with The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival for more than 30 years. Golda was a former Board Member of The Judges Athletic Association. She was employed by American Woodmark Corporation as National Customer Service Manager. She retired after 39 years with them.

Golda loved animals, traveling, cooking, gardening, spending time with her large family, numerous friends, and “bonus” children. Her home was always open for a cup of coffee, a meal, a chat, or a place to stay. She was never too busy to offer hospitality and help to all. Her warmth, laughter, and genuine concern for others made all who met her a part of their lives forever.
Golda is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ronald Fisher Putnam, Sr., daughter Patricia, sons Ronald Jr. (Shari), Michael (Kristy), John (Hayley), and grandchildren Elizabeth, Joseph (Kacey), Aleksa (Sean), Chloe, Brent (Amber), Allan, Andrew, Fisher, and Clara. She has six great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Golda was preceded in death by her infant son, Jeffrey Scott, her siblings John Oliver Pearson, James Owen Pearson, Sarah Lee Hartsell, and Charlotte Virginia Deal.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Blue Ridge Care, and the American Cancer Society.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held on August 22, 2026, from 3PM to 5PM at the Omps Funeral Home Reception Center, 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester Virginia.

I have been doing both Ron and Goulda’s nails for 18 years. She used to send me birthday cards every year and this year will be very hard without her. Condolences to all the family.

I met Golda when I moved into the house across the street in 2019. She and Ron were welcoming, always helpful, and very knowledgeable about our city. Golda and I spent many evenings on her porch visiting, talking about children's and grandchildren's achievements and antics. She is one of the most caring, gentle, strong, loving, generous, lovely people I have ever known. I miss her very much. I have been so impressed by her family's dedication to her care and comfort throughout. She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace sweet friend.

Carole and I were next door neighbors to Ron and Golda for 30 years after our move from England. Golda was a Lovely Lady, kind, thoughtful and generous. She was always in Great form always smiling with a Great sense of humor. Very special memories with them both. The perfect neighbor always welcoming at their home. Golda will be truly missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ron and Family at this sad time.

I count myself lucky to have gotten to see Golda a few times in the last year. She was a huge part of the history of American Woodmark and Dad, Al Graber thought the absolute world of her as a person and her incredible work ethic. My heart goes out to Ronny Sr. and all of the kids and grandkids. I pray you will find peace in knowing she is pain free now. What an incredible fighter she was.
