Gloria M. Rodríguez
Gloria Maria Rodríguez, 91, of Stephens City, VA, died Friday, February 1, 2013, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center. Mrs. Rodríguez was born in 1921 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Hermenejildo and Juanita Negrón. She was a secretary/translator with the US Government. Her last position was with USAID at the State Department. She retired after more than twenty years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was active in the field of music, serving in church choirs and was once a member of the State Department’s choir. She was also formerly active in the Focolare Movement.
She married Jose Rodríguez on December 4, 1948, at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, DC.
Mr. Rodríguez preceded her in death on October 20, 1992.
Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Maria Reynolds and husband, Martin, of Stephens City, VA and Margarita Di Salvo and husband Michael, of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Joshua Di Salvo and wife, Lauren North Di Salvo, Christopher Di Salvo, Kevin Di Salvo, Christine Reynolds, LCPL Laura Rodríguez and husband, CPL David Rodríguez, USMC, and Anna Reynolds, great grandson,
Rory Di Salvo, sisters Teresa Rodríguez of Miami, FL, Maria Mercedes Santana of Nashville, TN, and brother, Antonio Negrón of Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by sisters Rafaela Díaz and
Julia Negrón, and brother Silvio Negrón.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
