Glenn Ann Patterson Marsh went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 21, 2015. Born March 25, 1925 in Kenbridge, Virginia, Glenn Ann loved her family deeply and was devoted to raising her children.
A graduate of Longwood University, Mrs. Marsh taught elementary grades in the public school systems of Hopewell and Lexington, Virginia, and at the Strasburg High School before she established and operated the first kindergarten and private first grade in the Town of Strasburg, Virginia. She later served on the Board of Visitors at Longwood College. She loved the teaching profession and felt all the children she taught touched her life, as deeply as she touched theirs.
When her husband represented Virginia’s Seventh District in the United States Congress, Glenn Ann was an active member of the Congressional Wives Club and the Congressional Wives Prayer Group. Later as wife of the Secretary of the Army, she was a strong advocate for Military Family Support Services, giving special focus to enhancing Child Development Centers operating on U. S. Army military facilities. In this capacity, Glenn Ann also organized periodic gatherings of military wives for the purpose of spiritual enrichment and united prayer for military families, our nation and the world. Out of this grew a weekly group called “Circle of Love” which met for many years and became very dear to her heart.
Glenn Ann’s Christian faith was an integral part of her life. She was a member of Strasburg Presbyterian Church for many years, where she had close friendships. During the last twenty years, she was a beloved member of Victory Church in Winchester, Virginia, where she was active in weekly Bible studies and prayer meetings.
Glenn Ann is preceded in death by sisters Agnes Kelley of Fairfax, Virginia and Evelyn Venable of Charleston, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, the Honorable John O. Marsh, Jr.; sons Dr. Rob Marsh of Middlebrook, Virginia and Scot Marsh of Winchester, Virginia, and daughter Rebecca Whitener of Pulaski, Virginia; grandchildren Kate Marsh, Adam Marsh, Sally Marsh, Mattie Marsh, Isabelle Marsh, Ben Marsh and Doug Marsh.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. December 24, 2015 at the Amherst Chapel of the Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, Virginia, with the Rev. Dave Cunsolo officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at Omps Funeral Home.
