Glen E. Salyers, 82, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, died Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Berkeley Medical Center.
Mr. Salyers was born in Dickson County, Virginia in 1933, the son of the late Alfred and Nancy Salyers. He worked as a truck driver for JC Redding Co. in Manassas as well as a delivery man for the Winchester Star. He loved fishing, working on his cars, reading and watching old cartoons such as The Flinstones; he also enjoyed watching western shows and movies, he was an avid John Wayne fan. He played Bluegrass music with his brothers when he was younger as well as with his grandchildren. Amongst his many interests and hobbies, he collected cast classic cars and was a diehard Redskins and NASCAR fan, and especially a fan of Kyle Busch. Above all else he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
His wife, Virginia E. “Jenny” Salyers, whom he married on March 4, 1953 in Virginia, preceded him in death on August 17, 2009.
Mr. Salyers is survived by his three daughters, Debbie Keeler (William), Pamela Fox (Joseph), and Candi Morgan (Buck); fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandson on the way; and his sister, Hester Head.
Along with his wife, Mr. Salyers was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Dunn; son, Ricky Salyers; one sister and eight brothers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at Shenandoah Memorial Park on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Mike Mayton officiating.
