G. Kathleen Dorton
Gladys Kathleen Strother Dorton, 85, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, in Orlando, Florida.
Mrs. Dorton was born in 1924, in Gainesboro, Virginia, the daughter of the late Wilbert A. and Effie P. Strother. She was employed for many years by Dr. Leon Slavin then later became Owner/Operator of Riteway Cleaners on Braddock Street in Winchester. She was a longtime member of College Park Church of Christ in Winchester, Virginia. Mrs. Dorton was a graduate of Gainesboro High School and Winchester Business College.
Her husband, Charles Aston Dorton, Jr., whom she married on May 11, 1969, in Winchester, Virginia, preceded her in death in 1985.
Surviving are four nieces, Sheila McKee of Stephens City, Virginia, Lisa Holt of Birmingham, Alabama, Ann Pollard of Winchester, Virginia, Karla Potts of Orlando, Florida; two nephews, Wilbert A. Strother III of Spring Lake, North Carolina, Kevin Potts of Orlando, Florida, many grand nieces and nephews; a sister, Wanda Strother Potts of Orlando, Florida; and brother, Kenneth W. Strother of Winchester, Virginia. One sister, Isabelle S. Harter and one brother, Wilbert A Strother, Jr., preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Brandon Merrill officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Tim McKee, N. H. Holt, Mason Holt, Will Pollard, Sam Pollard, and Joe Harter.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
