Gilbank F. Hamilton
Gilbank “Gil” Franklin Hamilton, 84, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Hamilton was born in 1925, in Linden, Virginia, the son of the late Wade W. and Ida F. Hamilton. He was a Construction Superintendent having worked on the Arlington Temple in Rosslyn, Virginia and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. He later was General Superintendent for Shockey Company in Winchester, Virginia, where he supervised the building of Westminster Canterbury and the Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Hamilton was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member and past President of Middletown Lions Club, serving for twenty-three years, and a member of United Methodist Men of Grace Church. Mr. Hamilton participated on Project Hope in Berryville, Virginia, was the 1995 Senior Volunteer for Frederick County and the 1996 Couples Senior Volunteer with his wife for Frederick County. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army Air Corps, during World War II, achieving the rank of Corporal.
He married Melda Baker on June 2, 1946, in Fishers Hill, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of sixty-three years is his son, Dennis Hamilton and his wife, Donna, of Ellicott City, Maryland; granddaughter, Amy and her husband, CDR Robert Wolf and their children, Nicholas and Natalie, all of Gambrills, Maryland. His sister, Ruby Martin preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown, Virginia with Dr. Susan S. Garrett, Reverend Thomas Keithley and Mr. David A. Owings officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:30 – 2:00 PM, at the church.
