Geraldine M. Sandy, 94 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.
Gerry was born in 1930 in Winchester VA, the daughter of the late Harry and Mary Ellen McCarty. She was a graduate of Stonewall High School, Class of 1948 where she was also a member of Stonewall Alumni. Gerry worked as a teller for C&S Bank in Winchester. She was a member and was the first and only female President of the Shenandoah Region of AACA Antique Car Club of America in 1988. Gerry had been on 25 Glidden Tours with the AACA. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and was instrumental in helping with the migrant children working with a day care for them when the workers would arrive for the season. She was a proud member of the RNC. Apple Blossom was her favorite holiday and time of the year; she was the Apple Blossom Queen of the Sandy’s Ladies’ Luncheon, and several of her and Bill’s antique cars were driven during parades over the years.
She married William Edward Sandy on October 16, 1960, in Winchester and he preceded her in death on November 17, 2019.
Gerry is survived by her son, David Norton Sandy, Sr. (Ellen) of Stephens City, VA, son-in-law, Mike Witt (Carol) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Jeremy Collins (Susie) of Front Royal, VA, Jamie Doffermire (Rick) of Front Royal, VA and David Norton Sandy, Jr. (Kayla) of Winchester, VA; great-grandchildren William, Lilly, Peyton and Wesley.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gerry is preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Kay Sandy Witt and foster sister, Betty Pugh Travers.
A visitation will be held for Gerry on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm with a service to be conducted the following day, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City.
