Geraldine Cather Knode passed away on March 26 at Envoy of Winchester. Geraldine was born in 1928 to Sadie and James Cather of Frederick County, Virginia. Watch Video TributeGeraldine Cather Knode passed away on March 26 at Envoy of Winchester. Geraldine was born in 1928 to Sadie and James Cather of Frederick County, Virginia. She graduated from Handley High School in 1945 and attended college for two years; one year at Averett Junior College and one year at James Madison University. Geraldine (Jerry) worked as a secretary for the Virginia State Employment Service for 15 years. On April 18, 1953 Jerry married John H. Knode, Jr. and was married to John “Jack” until his death in 2013.
Jerry and John were member of the Elks Club #867, the Cotillion Dance Club, and First Baptist Church, Winchester. In their retirement years, they enjoyed family vacations with their extended family in Ft. Myers, FL. Jerry had a passion for clothes and once modeled for Margaret Hodson in her dress shop. She also cherished her beloved cat, Angel Baby.
Jerry was a cancer survivor since 1961. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Knode, Jr. and her sister, Constance C. Martin, also of Winchester. She is survived by a niece Stephany Martin Schappat of Winchester, a nephew J.L. Martin, Jr. of Winchester, a nephew Darrell Knode Wilson of Salisbury, MD, a nephew Carl W. Schleicher of Mechanicsburg, PA, a nephew Dennis J. Schleicher of Lancaster, PA, and a cousin Luann Philabin of Clear Brook, VA.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 1 pm to 2 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Reverend George Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
