Gerald “Jerry” James Bova, 83, of Winchester, Virginia, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Bova was born in 1932, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Rose and Samuel Bova. He was a graduate of Cathedral Prep School in Erie, Pennsylvania and Gannon University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy. Following his time with the Navy, Jerry continued his time with the government working on Capitol Hill as a member of the House Appropriations Committee. He was then employed with the Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon, as a Budget Analyst until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Bova was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, Virginia, where he was an active Eucharistic Minister. As a 4th degree Knight participating with The Knights of Columbus, Jerry proudly participated in many functions and in particular the honor guard.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He can be remembered for his love of faith, family, volunteering, golfing, the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, bowling, his one of kind personality, sense of humor and in general just loving life. He and his smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He married Antoinette M. Arrigo on July 13, 1963, in North East, Pennsylvania.
Surviving with his wife of 52 years is his daughter, Susan M. Bova-Fasano and her husband, John, of Atlanta, Georgia; son, David C. Bova and his wife, Jennifer, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and two granddaughters, Rose Marie Bova and Gia Patricia Bova.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7:00PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Frederick County, Virginia. Military Honors will be afforded by V.F.W. Post # 2123.
