George L. Baker, Jr.
George LeRoy Baker, Jr., 85, of Berryville, VA, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Mr. Baker was born in Lorton, VA, in 1925, the son of the late George LeRoy Baker, Sr. and Rosa Beatrice Baker. He had worked as an engineer and construction official in Fairfax County and as a certified building official for Clarke County Schools. He was a member of the American Legion Post 21 and the Berryville V.F.W. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.
His wife, Sandra W. Baker, preceded him in death in August of 2009.
Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Baker Smith of Manassas, VA, Lisa Ann Baker Qualls of Reston, VA and Jennifer Baker of Scottsdale, AZ; two sons, George “Butch” Baker, III and his wife, Dian E. of DelRay, WV and Bruce Baker of Glendale, AZ; and three grandchildren, Lea Anna Baker, Justin Baker and Alex Smith. One brother, Alvin Edward Baker, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Paris, VA with the Reverend Karen Adams officiating. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville, VA with full military honors accorded by V.F.W. Post 9760. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. Post 9760, in Berryville, VA.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
