George Louis Henzel
George Louis Henzel, 72, died peacefully at his home in Winchester on Saturday morning, July 2nd surrounded by family and friends after a long struggle with cancer.
Mr. Henzel was born on October 13, 1943, Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Rutherford and Smoke Rise New Jersey. Mr. Henzel was the only son of George Louis Henzel and Ione Elizabeth Edwards Henzel.
Mr. Henzel graduated from Rutherford High School, graduated from Bucknell University in 1965 where he was Rush Chairman and Vice President of Kappa Sigma and received his MBA from American
University, Washington, DC. Mr. Henzel married his college sweetheart, Victoria Lynn Smith, in 1966. He served in the US Coast Guard with most of his active duty in Norfolk, Virginia. His service in the Coast Guard solidified his love of the sea and boats which lasted all his life.
He was a successful business executive with major glass container corporations before launching what was to become his lifelong career as the founder of AES Corporate Services Company in Winchester, Virginia. The company began as the first professionally managed janitorial services serving large corporate facilities. In 1982 he developed the concept of planned facility staffing culminating in 50 employees. During this time he also pioneered universal drug testing. Leading temporary help services to a major 24/7 manufacturing facility which would be supplying upward of 150 people per work at the facility. He expanded on this contract to similar planned, staffing at several other large corporate facilities. In 1982, he got the opportunity to purchase his family business in the electronics industry located in New Jersey and developed a new line of precision cleaning equipment. In 1985 the business expanded into airport transportation and retail limousine service Magazine as one of the leading some fleet operators in the country. In 1990 he consolidated all operating units including relocating the facility of the New Jersey business into one facility constructing a 16,000 square foot office, manufacturing and warehouse facility at the newly opened industrial airport park. With their new space, the company expanded into janitorial supplies and equipment house servicing the five county area. In 1993 AES became the first staffing /janitorial services employer in the Shenandoah valley to require pre‐employment drug screening for employment. The staffing company 1995 presented the opportunity to bring a major car rental facility to the regional airport and subsequently the opening of five branches in the Shenandoah Valley. While managing the growth and success of his entrepreneurial endeavors, he found time to serve on the board and in leadership positions of several industry associations. He was honored as the North Valley Entrepreneur of the Year in 1995. In addition to his business commitments, he was a strong supporter of civic organizations: president of Fairport, Perinton,
NY Jaycees, Winchester Rotary Club, Chairman of 1983 and President in 1984. He was Vice president of the Wayside Theater and his 19 year commitment as treasurer of the Winchester preschool.
Mr. Henzel is survived by wife Victoria, his son Christopher and his wife Chella, his son, Jason and his daughter Cheryl, grandchildren, Brennan and Fallon. George never met a stranger; they were all friends and they are everywhere.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 13, at 3:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, #405, Winchester VA 22601; Winchester Preschool, 110 Lincoln Street, Winchester, Virginia.
