George John Stevian, age 87, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Stevian was born in 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Kirkor and Zara Stephanian. He was a pattern maker for General Motors in Marion, Indiana, retiring in 1989, after 32 years of service. He was a graduate of Parma Heights High School and was a member of the First Christian Church of Marion. He was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard, serving as flotilla Commander. Mr. Stevian was of Armenian Descent. He was a member of the American Legion, the Stephens City Senior Center, which is a part of the Shenandoah area agency on aging, and he was involved in boy scouting. He also was a member of the local Izaak Walton Conservation Club, in the Civil Air Patrol, and was active in the YMCA. He also served as a life guard.
He married Edna Florence Vessey in 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. She preceded him in death in 2003.
Surviving are his sons, John Stevian and wife, Vicki of Stephens City, Virginia, Richard Stevian and wife, Joan of Chicago, Illinois, and Thomas Stevian of Truckee, California; grandchildren John David Stevian and wife, Sonjia of Tennessee, Megan Glancey of Illinois, Monica Arshad and husband, Jabar of Illinois, Jori Stevian of California, Nicki Stevian, and Chad Stevian of Colorado; his great grandchildren, Sierra, Kristen, Jordan, DeAndrew, and Jacob; and his great great grandchildren, Lilleigh, Joseph, Ava, and Elijah. He was preceded in death by a son, David Stevian, granddaughter, Amy Stevian-Collins, and brother, Charles Stevian.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Paul Campbell officiating. Interment will be private.
