George Edward Grim, 86 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Hilltop House in Winchester.

Eddie was born in 1937 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Alva and Alice Grim. He was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1957, where he was a hero, once scoring 50 points in one basketball game, a record that stands to this day. For his 4 year high school career in basketball he amassed 1556 points, a record that still holds up. Upon graduation Eddie went on to play for the House of David and he was signed by them, playing for 5 years. He started his working career working for Food Fair then Grand Union. When Grand Union closed, Eddie went on to become a Deputy for Frederick County Sherriff’s Office.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Judy Ann, whom he married on May 9, 1992; his sons, Patrick Grim (Pam) and Michael Grim and 5 grandchildren.

A visitation will be held for Eddie on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

He was known by others for his basketball records and hard work as a deputy, but for me he was my sweet Grandaddy Ed. I’ve always held a soft spot in my heart for him and enjoyed being able to spend time in that little tv room at his house. He didn’t always talk much and had a hard time hearing too, but he always gave me a smile. When I was little, I would play checkers while he shared his orange slice candy with me and watched basketball. As I grew older, he loved coming to watch my kids carry on his legacy and play basketball. Every time we took a trip to Chuck E.Cheese, he was sure to show the kids and my husband his shooting techniques. He was often busy traveling off to new adventures and my life got busy with my family, but I always knew he was proud of me and I can only hope he knew how much I loved and cared for him. I will always carry a piece of him in my heart and picture that adorable grin and sparkle in his eye. I’m looking forward to the day I can see that again in heaven. I pray that you are now resting in peace, I love you Grandaddy Ed!
