George D. Ricketts, Jr., 91, of Winchester, Virginia died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Virginia.
Mr. Ricketts was born in 1925 in Virginia, the son of the late George D. and Lillian L. Ricketts. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy as a Chief Radio Operator during WWII and the Korean conflict. Mr. Ricketts later owned and operated the Winchester Aquarium and Pet Shop and had worked for Capital Records. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
His wife, Jean Manuel Ricketts, whom he married on April 12, 1952 in Winchester, Virginia at Braddock Street United Methodist Church preceded him in death on March 28, 2016.
Surviving are sons, John E. Ricketts, Carlton D. Ricketts and his wife, Jan; grandchildren, Marisa W. Lee and husband, Jeff, Mike R. Whitacre, Jeff M. Whitacre, Alizabeth C. Ricketts, Kyle B. Ricketts, and Meredith P. Ricketts; great-grandchildren, Iris S. and William H. Lee; sister-in-law, Pauline Ricketts of Hagerstown, Maryland.
Along with his wife, Mr. Ricketts was preceded in death by his brother, William “Billy” Ricketts.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:00 pm until the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm at the Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Mary L. Ricketts officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will be at 3:00 pm in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
