George Shoemaker, 94, of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in his home.
Mr. Shoemaker was born in 1921, the son of the late Delbert L. Shoemaker and Mabel N. Shoemaker. He was a Veteran, having served for the Army Infantry during World War II. He was formerly employed by B&O Railroad and the U.S. Government, separately retiring from each. George was a 50 year member of the Concorde 3070 Masonic Lodge in Vienna, VA. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Shriner’s Group and was part of Apple Valley Square dancing.
Mr. Shoemaker married Mary M. Young on December 2, 1939 in Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are his two daughters, Nancy Ann Dodge (William) of Sterling, Virginia and Susan Margaret Costello (Larry Lucas), of Stephens City, Virginia; son, Stephen Roland Shoemaker (Beverly) of Manassas, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Bret, April, Sarah, Heather, Valerie, Kyle, and Trevor; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brett, Glen, Carla and Deegan; and three great-great-grandchildren, Victoria, Andrea and Joseph.
Mr. Shoemaker was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Louise Kisley and his six sisters.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 23, 2015, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Stephens City United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 23, 2015 with Pastors Bob Gochenor and Waverly Reames officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA.
