Gary Vernon Tisinger, 84, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, with his family by his side.
Gary was the son of the late Norman Lee Tisinger, Sr., and Margaret Barton Tisinger. He served his country in the U.S. Army, earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Lynchburg College, Master of Science in Education from James Madison University, and an advanced degree in school administration from George Mason University. Gary devoted 46 years to the Frederick County Public School System, where he served as an administrator, before his retirement.
Whether tending his garden, building a home, or exploring his love of history, he found joy in the things that interested him. He also loved to tell a good story, sharing memories and experiences with those around him. His greatest interest, however, was his family. He loved keeping up with his grandchildren’s lives, celebrating their milestones, and taking pride in the people they were becoming.
He is survived by his companion of 43 years, Jacquelyn Lewis; daughters, Colette Tisinger-Jones (Greg) of Stephens City, Virginia, and Carmen Tisinger (Ron) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Jordyn Jones, Chelsey Jones, and Bryce Thompson; and a sister, Judy Chapman of Stephens City, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Fout, and a brother, Norman Lee Tisinger, Jr.
Services will be private.
