Gary O. Gardner, Sr.
Gary Oakland “Pap” Gardner, Sr., age 72, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at his home. Mr. Gardner was born in 1941 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Kendall Oakland and Melissa (Newlin) Gardner. He was a farmer, and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Gardner enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing setback, fishing, hard work and bowling.
He married Joyce DeHaven on November 2, 1963 in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of fifty years are sons, Gary O. “Oakey” Gardner, Jr. and wife, Tina and Keith Gardner, both of Frederick County, Virginia; grandchildren, Gary Oakland Gardner, III, Kayla Gardner, Taylor Gardner, Shane McDonald, and Justin McDonald; sisters Lucille Payne, Judy Johnson and Debra Krippner, all of Frederick County, Virginia, and brothers Lanny Gardner of Wardensville, West Virginia and Eugene “Buzzy” Gardner of Frederick County, Virginia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Gardner and Larry Gardner.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst chapel with Pastor Donald Moulden officiating. Interment will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary O. Gardner, III, Justin McDonald, Lanny Gardner, Eugene “Buzzy” Gardner, Walter DeHaven, and James DeHaven. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Kayla Gardner and Taylor Gardner.
