Gary Leo Fletcher, 89, of Stephens City, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Friday March 4, 2022. Mr. Fletcher was born November 1, 1932 in Rock Oak, West Virginia, son of the late Earl and Golda Funkhouser Fletcher.
Mr. Fletcher graduated from Bayfield High School in 1951 in Bayfield Wisconsin. He joined the US Navy in July 1951 proudly serving his country 1951-1955 during the Korean War. After his military service he started his career as a bricklayer/stonemason and received his union journeyman card in 1957. In 1971 he began teaching masonry at Dowel J Howard Vocational School for 8 years. In 1979 he went to work for Brick Institute of America as head of manpower development. After leaving BIA he worked at Frederick Block Co. until his retirement.
On December 26, 1953 he married Neva Yates Fletcher at Salem Church of the Brethren in Stephens City, Virginia. He is survived by his brother, Larry R Fletcher of Hudson, Wisconsin and children, Melinda Clark (Richard) of Stephens City, Danny Fletcher (Dorothy) of Stephens City, Shane Fletcher ( Tammy) of Locust Grove, VA, Scott Fletcher and David Fletcher (Susan) of Stephens City VA; 13 grandchildren, Lane & Fletcher Clark, Ronnie, Andy, Tim, Mark, Jeremiah, Aaron, Zach, Matt and Brandon Fletcher, Jessie Fletcher Needham and Jenilee Fletcher Sales; 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Neva, a son, Delbert Fletcher, daughters-in-law, Patty Fletcher and Julie Fletcher, and grandson, Chris Fletcher.
He was a member of Salem Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon, a delegate and participated in many mission and disaster relief projects. He was a very active member of the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 313. He was instrumental in the organization and construction of the Korean War Memorial in Jim Barnett Park in Winchester as well as the War Memorials in Stephens City and Middletown.
He was a member of American Legion Post 21, FOE 4186, Moose Lodge 2483 as well as Sons of the American Revolution.
A funeral service will be held Saturday March 19, 2022 at Salem Church of the Brethren in Stephens City with Rev. Charles Comer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. Friday evening, March 18, 2022 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Street in Winchester, Va.
