Gary Aubern Belcher, 73 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Winchester Medical Center.
Gary was born in 1949 in Pulaski County, VA, the son of the late Lowell and Thelma Belcher. Gary served our country in the United States Air Force where he received his Associate’s Degree. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service. Gary then went on to work for FEMA/Homeland Security where he retired in 2014. He loved working in the yard, drawing, collecting coins & stamps and building things in the shop, such as furniture, bird houses, jewelry boxes and clocks. Gary ran calls at Millwood Station, as secretary there he organized the history of the station in scrapbooks. He loved to cook and was an avid reader; his favorite author was Stephen King. Gary was also interested in Geology, looking up his family on My Heritage. Gary and Valera have been saving fur babies for over 25 years, giving them a forever home. Gary loved spending time with the dog’s at Briggs and fell in love with a pretty Shar-Pei mix named Lucy from the story Queen Narnia. One day he and Valera’s estate will be donated to Briggs Animal Adoption Center in Charles Town, WV. Gary was a man of God and member of 1st Presbyterian Church where he volunteered at the soup kitchen and serving during the Thanksgiving Luncheon and singing in the choir. He never left the house without wearing his English Cap. Gary also loved miniature trains and filled half the basement with his trains.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Valera whom he married on June 27, 1987; daughter, Jessica Monetti of Lynchburg, VA, grandchildren, Patrick Tucker of Danville, VA, Emily Belcher of Danville, VA; three great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Belcher of Hillsville, VA and his fur babies, Snowy, Maximillian, Rocky Road and Gizmo.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patty Warren and brother, Ronald Belcher.
A service will be held for Gary on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Fellowship Bible Church at 11am. Officiating will be Pastor Dave Compton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gary to Briggs Animal Adoption Center, 3731 Berryville Pike, Charles Town, WV 25414
