Gail R. Kern
Gail Ritter Kern, 59, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, in UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia.
Mrs. Kern was born in 1953, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of Elizabeth Ritter-King and the late Arthur R. Ritter. She was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1972. Mrs. Kern founded and was president of CFW Credit and Collection Bureau and a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winchester. Gail was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who lived for attending their sporting events. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, knitting and canning; described by her family as a “country girl at heart”. She was an amazing individual who was known for her love of the beach and being poolside in her pool house. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She married Richard D. Kern, Jr., on June 23, 1973, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with her mother and husband is her daughter, Elizabeth Kern Rutherford and husband, Billy; son, Richard Kern III “Trey” and wife, Shawna; five grandchildren, Peyton, Samantha, Carson, Mia and Reagon all of Winchester, Virginia; sisters, Judy Ritter Zuckerman and husband, Steve, Carolyn Ritter, Darlene Hockman, all of Winchester, Virginia; two brothers, Richard “Ricky” Ritter and wife Barbara of Winchester and Arthur “Mickey” Ritter and wife, Jenny, of Inwood, West Virginia, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor James H. Utt officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
