Frederick “Buzzy” Lineburg, 74, of Lyman Lake, South Carolina, formerly of Winchester, Virginia, left his life on earth Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, due to complications from pneumonia.
Buzzy was born in 1943 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Melvin and Anna Lineburg. He lived a full life growing up in Winchester, Virginia and graduated from John Handley High School, Class of 1963. Buzzy was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow. Buzzy enjoyed camping at Rock Enon and summers at Sulphur Springs Seminary.
Buzzy was a career Navy Mustang. In his first 12 years of Naval Service, he rose from an enlisted “2-striper” to AW Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8). In 1977 he received his Limited Duty Officer commission and in 1982 earned his Wings of Gold as a Naval Flight Officer. In October 1999 Buzzy retired as a Commander (O-5) and spent the next 15 years as a Government Contractor in the D.C. area.
Buzzy enjoyed golf, fishing, boating and being with family, friends and neighbors. He was an active member of American Legion Post 21 Winchester, past Post Commander of VFW Post 9760 Berryville, member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) having been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, and a member of the Maritime Patrol Association.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be missed but forever loved. Buzzy touched so many lives.
Surviving with his wife of 52 years, BeeDee Kerns Lineburg, is his daughter, Buffi Wilder (Eric) and their daughter, Lola of Ashville, North Carolina; twin sister, Betsy Branner Whitehead (Larry) of Winchester, Virginia; twin nephews, Keith and Kevin Branner, cousins and extended family.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral mass will be at 1 pm on Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Interment will be private.
