Freddie Ray Hart, affectionately known as Fred, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2025, in Lake Frederick, Virginia, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.
Fred was born on November 16, 1939, in Paris, Tennessee. He graduated high school and then joined the Navy. He proudly served his country as a Hospital Corpsman (HM) in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. During his service, he was stationed in Southern California and Hawaii.
Fred’s professional career spanned over two decades at the National Geographic Society, where he worked as a Computer Manager at their Gaithersburg, Maryland facility until it closed. He went on to contribute his expertise to several organizations, including Dewberry & Davis, before retiring at the age of 65.
In the early 1970s, Fred moved from California to Virginia, where he met his future wife, Janet, on a blind date. The two were married in 1975 at the First Baptist Church of Clarendon in Arlington, Virginia. Their marriage was filled with love and shared dedication to their faith. Fred was deeply involved in his church, serving as chairman of the deacons, teaching Sunday School, and organizing a variety of church activities.
In 2007, Fred and Janet moved from Arlington to Lake Frederick, Virginia, where Fred quickly became a beloved member of the community. He started a hiking club, sharing his lifelong passion for the outdoors. Fred was an avid hiker and camper, finding joy and peace in nature throughout his life.
Fred battled severe dementia in his later years and passed away with the love and care of his family by his side.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Janet; his son, Michael Hart; his daughter, Susan Williams (Matt); his two beloved grandchildren, Caleb and Sophie Hart; and his oldest sister, Betty Jean George and several nieces and nephews.
