Frank “Frankie” W. Macomber
Frank “Frankie” Winston Macomber, 91, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at a Fredericksburg Nursing Facility.
Mr. Macomber was born in 1925, in Wayne, Maine, the son of the late Jennie and Otis Macomber. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea as a navigator on one of the Destroyer Ships. Mr. Macomber was a supervisor with ABEX in Winchester, Virginia, retiring after 33 years of service in 1988. He was an amateur astronomer and meteorologist. Mr. Macomber loved to sing and listen to music, in particular, Bluegrass music. He enjoyed playing the guitar. Frank was very much the practical joker and enjoyed photography.
He married Elva Marie Deavers in 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Surviving is his daughter, Elizabeth Solka and her husband, Jeffrey, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his girlfriend, Nancy Nylander, whom he loved spending time with and whose family he adored; grandchildren, Stephen Solka of Woodbridge, Virginia, Robert Solka of Fredericksburg, Virginia; brother, Charles Macomber and wife, Evelyn, of Gore, Virginia; sister in law, Lois Macomber of Annapolis, Maryland; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
One brother, Otis “Junior” Macomber, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 1:00-2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Duane L. Jensen officiating. Interment will be private.
