Frank Lee Whitacre
Frank Lee Whitacre, 95, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Westminster – Canterbury, Winchester, Virginia.
Mr. Whitacre was born in 1914, in Whitacre, Virginia, the son of the late Lee N. and Lula M. Whitacre. He was a retired Principal and Teacher with the Frederick County School System, having served for 35 years. Mr. Whitacre was a member of the Redland United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Gainesboro Rurtian Club and Co-Founder of the Gainesboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue. In addition he was a member of the Frederick County Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Whitacre was a graduate of Shepherd University where he received a BA in Education. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, having served with the Signal Corp in the Caribbean, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.
His wife, Juanita Shaw Whitacre, whom he married on December 24, 1939, in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, preceded him in death on September 24, 2006.
Surviving are one daughter, Janie Lee Whitacre of Winchester, Virginia; one son, David Shaw Whitacre of Cross Junction, Virginia; Three grandchildren, John Richardson, Katherine Wendt, Shawn Whitacre; three great grandchildren, Amber, Zane, and Christian Richardson; and brother, Dr. Samuel N. Whitacre, of Frederick County, Virginia.
One grandson, Keith Richardson, sisters, Hilda Lizer, Kathryn Lineweaver and brother, George B. Whitacre, preceded him in death.
A funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Michael Kendall and Chaplain Elizabeth Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whitacre, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be William Lee Whitacre, Steve Lineweaver, Joe Lizer, Lee Whitacre, Peyton Whitacre, John Richardson, Shawn Whitacre, Lee Lizer and Bob Lizer.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nursing and Care Staff of the Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
