Frances “Kitty” (Welsh) Clevenger, 92, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Facility.
Ms. Clevenger was born in 1925 in Warren County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Henry Clinton and Bertha Welsh. She was a homemaker and a “stay-at-home mom” and an excellent cook. Ms. Clevenger enjoyed swimming, painting, and traveling. She also loved her animals and enjoyed taking long walks to appreciate God’s beauty. Ms. Clevenger was baptized at St. John’s Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
Her husband of 62 years, Nelson Ritter Clevenger, Sr., whom she married in 1946 in Hagerstown, Maryland preceded her in death in 2009.
Surviving is a brother, Bennie Welsh, Sr.; a son, Nelson “Johnny” Clevenger, Jr. (Barbara); a daughter, Robin Clevenger Greene (Jim); grandchildren, Matthew Greene (Andrea), Samuel Greene (Dawn), N. Ritter Clevenger, III (Theresa), David Clevenger (Erin), and Thomas Clevenger (Lindsay); ten great grandchildren; one great, great grandson; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Ms. Clevenger was preceded in death by sisters, Elsie Welsh, Etta Virginia Bowman, and Ruth Margaret Farrior; and brothers, James, Ralph, Lawrence, Archie, and Joseph Welsh.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 am to 11 am on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 11 am with Pastor Laetitia Schoeman officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia with a time of food and continued fellowship to follow at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
