Florence Maude Satterwhite Rinker passed away quietly in her sleep on September, 27, 2023 at the age of 91. The 4th of 11 children of Issac Medicus and Florence Modell Bowen Satterwhite, Florence (Flo) grew up on a tobacco farm in McKinney, Virginia. Upon graduation in 1949 from McKinney High School, she went to New York City to live with an aunt and uncle and work in the city. She returned to Virginia and married Charles Rinker of Stephens City, Va on December 26, 1953. They moved to Dicks Hollow Road in Frederick County, Virginia in 1958 where they raised three boys. While Flo’s primary job was raising three boys and providing a loving home, she also held many different jobs in the Winchester area – including bookkeeping, sales and customer service, fast food, and quality control. She also kept the books for Charles’ construction company.
Florence was an active and faithful member of Round Hill Church for almost 60 years. She also was a 1990 graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College earning an AA in Applied Science with a major in Accounting.
Florence was an attentive and loving Grandmother to 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She loved playing card games and dominoes with her sisters and grandchildren. She crocheted, knitted and enjoyed putting puzzles together. She spent her last 6 months at Spring Arbor and will be missed by everyone there in addition to her family.
She is survived by her three sons – David Rinker (Sue) of Harrisonburg, VA, Douglas Rinker (Katie) of Winchester, VA, Dale Rinker (Jackie) of Winchester; grandchildren, Amanda Rinker Lettieri (Dave) of Dumfries, VA, Daniel Rinker (Lawrence) of Littleton, CO, Mark Rinker (Lauren) of Ann Arbor, MI, Kevin Rinker of Harrisonburg, VA; 4 great grandchildren and sisters Jean Elder, Virgie Jones, Mary Whittaker, Sally Parvin, and Tiny Dalton.
